Randi Stanley's RARB Bio

picture of Randi

I'm a terrible a cappella junkie. I have a hard time listening to any song without mentally envisioning what it might sound like arranged for an a cappella group. I rarely sing along to leads of songs and get lots of stares when "jen-do-wa-ing" down the streets of Manhattan. I shouldn't wear headphones as often as I do.

I've been singing in a cappella groups since 1992, starting with a high school group, then onto Significant Others at Northwestern University, where I directed and produced the group's first two CDs. Here in NYC, I sang with a group called Treble and co-produced their second album. My current a cappella group is The Sirens, a group of 8 women who fortunately are also great friends of mine. Our first CD, "PreMusical Syndrome" was released in June 2007.

In my former life, I worked at Sony Music and BMG, before they were the mammoth co-label they are today. Specifically I worked at RCA Victor Group (classical, world, jazz, reissues) and at Sony 'did my time' in the Copyright department. I also worked at Varsity Vocals as a producer. After Northwestern, I received a master's in Music Business at NYU. Currently, I'm a freelance writer and have turned my a cappella habit into a part-time career. I started the a cappella arranging company NYC A Cappella in September 2006. It's so rare to have a job that you love doing every day, and I'm so lucky to have found one. I'm also a new Mom to a little, sweet alto! Short-term goals for my arranging career are: to have an arrangement appear on a group's CD that I'm not a member of, have an arrangement reviewed by RARB on said CD(s) (double check, both happening this year), write an original a cappella song, and appear on an a cappella compilation. Oh yeah - and win a Grammy. And the Pulitzer.
