The Troubadours of George Washinton University have an awesome track on their hands with Locked Out of Heaven. I call it poppin’ fresh a cappella. The arrangement is full of fun and exciting hooks. The percussion and rhythm section lock into the pocket with a driving beat — seriously engaging and body moving. I cranked it up to 11 and danced my winter blues away. That’s what I need from a dance track, and they made sure to fill most of my needs.

So why not all of my needs? Unfortunately, the soloist and the sopranos sound too young to make this an excellent track. Compare it to Musae’s version and you’ll hear what I mean. The sopranos wimp out in the opening “yeah, yeah”s and the soloist is good, but too pristine and exacting to really command the song in a gritty and sexy way. Other than this, I can’t wait to hear more from the Troubadours; they are on par to make a killer album.
