Ball in the House is back with another original single. Take A Chance, penned by member Kevin Cincotta-Guest, is inspired by memories of his nascent relationship with his wife: the nervousness, joy, and vulnerability of new love. I can easily imagine a retro-inspired music video or a film montage of a couple's first dates accompanied by the track and encourage you to do the same while you listen! This polished pop anthem may share a title and a similar plea with ABBA's famed hit, but it sounds more like an '80s version of The Weeknd or The Postal Service.

While the track uses only vocals, the singing, production, and dense layering so closely recreates the '80s synth pop sound that you almost forget you're listening to an a cappella recording. Cincotta-Guest clearly wrote this arrangement for his own group members, playing to their strengths to rival any other pop song, one with instrumentalists or without. His own smooth bass stylings synergize with Jon Ryan's spot-on vp. Tyler Nordin's lead vocals soar. Nordin, Wallace Thomas, and Oscar Hall blend sumptuously on the backup vocals. Moreover, the single is exceptionally well-produced: recorded, edited, and mixed by members of the group with mastering by Bill Hare. Though this level of excellence is to-be-expected at this point from Ball in the House, the members continue to blow me away with their creativity, polish, and experimentation with different genres and sound worlds.
